Democracy Session 4: The Democracy Bardo

This participatory work and performance invites audiences to share their hopes, fears, and reflections on democracy, civic engagement, and responsibility. The contributions, accumulated throughout the weekend, will be interpreted and responded to in a series of sprawling, improvised performances by Wild Up. Blending public dialogue with creative expression, this piece underscores the importance of individual opinions and collective voices for the future of Democracy.

Democracy Session 5: Stimmung

A reimagined performance of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Stimmung, expanded with ritualistic elements and layers of live electronics by vocal ensemble HEX. Stimmung (“tuning” in German), explores harmony and the communal experience of making music to understand the vital and deeper social and political meanings and implications of sound and tuning.
Before the performance, the audience is welcomed into a participatory workshop of the score, revealing the process for developing the score and tuning into each other.

A book of scores from the Wild Up community commemorates the weekend’s themes and program. About Endless Season
Art in LA has long been about freedom and a rich rejection of history. With intersecting methods and intentions, it is humble yet aspirational, creating a city that appeals to the aesthete and mystic in all its citizens. Here, famous artists also double as street-side sign painters, our finest restaurants are located in strip malls, and our landmarks are more geographical than architectural or fleetingly experiential rather than permanent monuments to their lineages. Here, our religious and secular musics sound the same.
Endless Season revolves around these distinct West Coast traits. These programs mark a new chapter, focusing on sustainability and place, and investing in the artists and audiences who make our city vibrant. Together, we encourage, question, reinterpret, and challenge the past, modality, and genre. We hold a space for intersectionality and dialogue surrounding every aspect of our work.

Endless Season continues internationally and across Los Angeles, as we embark on a year of festivals, residencies, and deep explorations of sound and those close-to-the-heart feelings that draw us toward one another. We begin by bringing the music of Julius Eastman to Germany at Ruhrtriennale. Then, we look toward the future of society with a weekend of democratic music-making with Democracy Sessions at MOCA Warehouse. In 2025, we untether Darkness Sounding, a festival that explores how listening, sound, and music shape our understanding of the world, from LA to congregate in New York around tuning and droves of medieval harmonies at 92NY. And we explore what it means to live life To The Fullest, celebrating selves brimming with unique righteousness, around the music of Julius Eastman and Arthur Russell in a three-month-long festival with the LA Philharmonic and REDCAT and other partners yet to be announced.
