Marlon Martinez has a plan. He’s restless and chipping away at something. Something big, unknown, crystalizing, and as of yet unresolved. It’s probably that quality of focus that makes him such a brilliant bassist, improviser, composer, bandleader and just all around compassionate guy. He has torrents of experience, carrying the torch of Billy Strayhorn, making music with Stanley Clarke, Stewart Copeland, Mike Garson, Quatuor Ebène, and leading the big band he founded, Marlonius Jazz Orchestra. When Marlon is on stage he weaves a subtle gravity with his playing. He pulls all of us in. What he’s searching for, we feel its presence too. And we’re captivated following close behind.
