WEST at the Hammer Museum

In 2012, we were the first Orchestra in Residence at a Museum (ever as far as we’re aware). We moved into the courtyard at the Hammer Museum in Westwood and begin a massive six month residency, full of forty plus events, all free to the public, including West. A study of the west coast: experimentalism, pulse music, noise, punk rock, Los Angeles, and tumbleweeds. It’s not just the minimalism of Andrew Tholl, ambience of Andrew McIntosh and Chris Kallmyer, but also the cult of the west, Morricone’s soundscapes of our past, three California Girls, and stillness through Brian Eno and Harold Budd. We went on on to perform this show many times in the future, in different iterations and configurations. And always with tumbleweeds.
